How to Understand Swim School Levels and Progression

The Swim Bright program is designed to provide a clear and structured pathway for swimmers of all ages and abilities. As children develop confidence, water safety skills, and swimming technique, they progress through a series of age-based and skill-based levels.

Each level builds on the skills learned in the previous stage, helping swimmers become safe, capable, and confident in the water.

πŸ‘Ά What are the requirements for Babies and Preschoolers?

Our early years program focuses on water familiarisation, confidence building, and foundational aquatic skills.

Murray (6 to 18 Months)

Parent-and-child classes designed to introduce babies to the aquatic environment through fun, engaging activities.

Darling (18 to 36 Months)

Builds confidence, mobility, and independence in the water while continuing parent participation.

Bells (3 to 4 Years)

Supports the transition towards independent participation in lessons while developing core water skills and confidence.

Progression through these levels is primarily based on age.

🏊 Preschool Levels

Torquay (3+ Years)

Torquay is the first independent preschool level. Swimmers focus on developing:

βœ… Water confidence
βœ… Floating and submersion skills
βœ… Basic propulsion and movement through the water
βœ… Listening and responding to instructor directions

Swimmers remain in Torquay until they either:

πŸ“ˆ Achieve the required assessment outcomes to progress, or
πŸŽ“ Reach school age

Clovelly

Clovelly is the highest level available to swimmers who have not yet started school.

At this level, swimmers continue refining their skills and building competency before transitioning into the school-aged program.

πŸŽ“ What are the requirements for School-Aged students?

Once children begin school, progression is based on their swimming ability and successful completion of assessment criteria.

Swimmers advance through levels as they demonstrate competency in:

βœ… Water safety skills
βœ… Stroke development
βœ… Swimming technique
βœ… Endurance and fitness
βœ… Independence in the water

Each level introduces progressively more advanced skills to support long-term swimming success.

What are the requirements for our Specialist programs?

πŸ“ˆ How Does Progression Work?

Progression is determined through regular assessments conducted by our Pool Deck Supervisors.

Swimmers move to the next level when they consistently demonstrate the required skills and outcomes for their current class.

Factors that may influence progression include:

🏊 Swimming ability
πŸ’ͺ Confidence in the water
πŸ“… Lesson attendance
🎯 Skill development and competency
πŸ‘Ά Age requirements (where applicable)

⏳ How Long Does It Take to Move Up?

Every swimmer progresses at their own pace.

Some children may advance quickly, while others may need additional time to develop confidence and master the required skills.

There is no set timeframe for progression, as every child's aquatic journey is unique.

πŸ’¬ How Can I Check My Child's Progress?

Our Pool Deck Supervisors regularly assess students and are available to discuss your child's development and progression.

If you would like feedback on your child's swimming journey, please:

You can also view your child’s progress yourself, through the Client Portal.

When viewing Skills, you can filter through the linked members on your account to view their most current assessed skills for their designated level.

To view the skills, you can select the level you wish to view. This will show all the skills required to progress and where the swimmer is currently aligned with the level.
