How Long Will It Take for My Child to Progress to the Next Level?

Every swimmer develops at their own pace, so the time it takes to progress to the next level can vary from child to child. Progression is based on a combination of age, skill development, confidence, and the ability to meet the required assessment outcomes.

πŸ‘Ά What does progression look like for babies and toddlers?

Our Babies and Toddlers classes are age-based, meaning children will automatically progress to the next level once they reach the maximum age range for their current class.

Age-Based Levels

πŸ‘Ά Murray: 6 to 18 months
🧸 Darling: 18 to 36 months
🌊 Bells: 3 to 4 years

🏊 Preschool Program Progression

Once a child enters Torquay (3+ years), progression becomes increasingly based on skill development and assessment outcomes.

Torquay

βœ… Children remain in Torquay until they:

  • Meet the required assessment outcomes to progress to Clovelly, or
  • Reach school age

Clovelly

⭐ Clovelly is the highest level available for children who have not yet started school.

πŸŽ“ What does progression look like for 5 years +?

Once children begin school, progression through the Swim School levels is based on their swimming ability and achievement of the required skills for each level.

Advancement occurs when swimmers successfully meet all assessment criteria for the next stage.

⏳ How Long Does Progression Take?

There is no set timeframe for moving between levels.

Every child develops differently, and progression can be influenced by factors such as:

βœ… Lesson attendance
βœ… Confidence in the water
βœ… Skill development
βœ… Age and maturity
βœ… Practice outside of lessons

Some swimmers may progress quickly, while others may require additional time to build confidence and master new skills.
