In Need of Pausing Your Membership? ⏸️

We refer to this process as a membership “suspension” or “freeze” period. Below, you will find details regarding Membership Freezes and Swim Bright Freezes.

For Memberships (Excludes Swim Bright)

Members have the flexibility to freeze their membership as needed. All memberships, except for Swim Bright (Learn to Swim), are eligible for unlimited freezes at a cost of $2.50 per week.

What does “unlimited freeze” mean?

  • Members can place their membership on hold as many times as needed throughout the year.

  • Each freeze period must be scheduled with both a start and an end date.

  • Open-ended or indefinite freezes are not allowed.

Freeze Conditions:

  • Freezes are available in minimum blocks of one week.

  • No facility or service access is permitted during the freeze period.

  • Members cannot freeze their account during the 28-day cancellation notice period.

  • Accounts must be in good financial standing; no freeze will be processed if there is a negative balance.

  • Retroactive freeze requests will not be approved.

  • For Paid in Advance (Fixed Term) memberships, freeze fees must be paid upfront for the full freeze duration.

Medical Suspensions

  • Available at no cost for up to 3 months in the event of injury or incapacity.

  • Requires a valid medical certificate.

  • Northcote Aquatic and Recreation Centre reserves the right to review and deny medical freeze requests as deemed appropriate.

How to Freeze Your Swim Bright Membership

Understanding the Purpose of a Membership Freeze

Membership freezes are designed to support members during temporary absences from the facility — such as for travel, injury, or other short-term personal situations. They provide a way to pause your membership without needing to cancel and rejoin later, while preserving your access to member benefits and pricing upon return.

Responsible Use and Misuse

Membership freezes are a courtesy option provided to accommodate genuine absences. They are not intended to be used as a method for turning your membership on and off based on when you intend to access the facility.

Examples of inappropriate use include:

  • Freezing your membership regularly around specific days or weeks to avoid charges.

  • Attempting to use freezes to bypass cancellation or commitment obligations.

  • Scheduling multiple short freezes to mirror your expected usage patterns.

Northcote Aquatic and Recreation Centre reserves the right to monitor and review freeze activity. Where patterns of misuse are identified, we may reach out to the member for clarification or, in some cases, limit or decline further freeze requests to maintain fairness and integrity across the membership base.
